Abilene, TX

There will be a partial solar eclipse visible from Abilene on Thursday, October 23. It will begin at about 4:48 p.m. and will still be in progress when the Sun sets Thursday evening (about 7 p.m.). The McMurry University Physics department will have a telescope (with filter) set up on the north deck at the top of Wilford Moore Stadium (next to the press box) starting at about 4:30 p.m. to safely view the eclipse. The public is invited to attend.

It is important to observe proper safety precautions when observing the Sun, especially during a partial eclipse. This area is handicap accessible (via elevator) and gates on the east and west sides of the stadium should be open. Some “eclipse shades” will also be available for safe, unmagnified viewing.
