McMurry Model UN Students Travel to Rome for Conference

Six McMurry students will travel to Rome, Italy, to attend a Model UN conference beginning November 20, 2014. The students - Doug Alldredge, Salome Block, Matthew Brown, Kirk Hodel, Kim Martinez and Keith Wagner - are representing Argentina in the UN Security Council, the General Assembly Plenary, and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).

The keynote speaker for this conference is FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva. Topics to be negotiated include: human rights protections for journalists and women during armed conflict; food security; overcoming the double burden of malnutrition; rebel and gang violence as drivers of weapons trafficking; and LGBTI rights.

The McMurry students also will tour Vatican City and the Roman Forum while in Italy.
