McMurry University President Dr. Sandra S. Harper has been re-elected to chair one of the committees of compliance and reports of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees.  Harper has served on the SACSCOC Board since 2013 and her term extends through 2016.  The Board of Trustees elects five chairs of its 77-member body to facilitate compliance and reports committee work. These committees review and recommend to the Board actions relating to the accreditation of higher education institutions in the Southeast region of the United States.  During her first year as a chair, Harper led the committee that reviewed institutions that were seeking initial accreditation or were substantively changing their program or governance structure.

The SACS Commission on Colleges is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the southern states representing approximately 800 institutions. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among the diverse institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America and other international sites approved by the Commission on Colleges that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degrees.
