McMurry University Events Celebrate Black History Month

McMurry University’s Diversity Affairs Council is hosting a number of events celebrating Black History Month.

SHADES OF US: Presented on Wednesday, February 11, from 8-10 p.m. in Old Main Watt Matthews Auditorium, this event is a campus-wide discussion over views on everyday life. Students will receive a stereotype written on a note card and act it out for participants to discuss how it makes them and others feel.

MUSIC FEST: Presented on Tuesday, February 17, at 8 p.m. in the Garrison Campus Center Mabee Room, this event is a timeline throughout the history of black music from the 1900s to now. Students have an opportunity to win a $10 gift card every 30 minutes in a dance contest that varies through different eras.

MOVIE NIGHT "THE HELP": Presented at 7 p.m. Friday, February 20, in the Garrison Campus Center Mabee Room, this event for McMurry students, faculty staff and families is $2 for admission. Snacks will be provided.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH BANQUET: Presented at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 28, in the Garrison Campus Center Mabee Room, this event will be by invitation only. There will be special performances from the McMurry Chanters and Friendship Baptist Church from The Colony, Texas, and speeches from several persons.
