Charlie Hukill, Professor of Theatre at McMurry University, was elected President-Elect of the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TETA) at its annual Theatrefest convention in Houston January 30-February 1. After serving in this capacity for two years, he will assume the role of the President for two years.

The Texas Educational Theatre Association, founded in 1951, strives to use all resources available to strengthen theatre teachers, and build on existing programs around the state to continue to improve the quality of theatre education in the state of Texas.

TETA also offers several opportunities for students. During the annual TheatreFest there are dozens of workshops for students to learn about acting, lighting, productions, and meet professional entertainers from many forms of theatre. TETA also makes available to the students a college audition opportunity where their auditions can be seen by over 125 college theatre directors and professional training studios at the same time.

Professor Hukill also directed McMurry student Charles Hughes’ winning TETA Playfest original script, Moran, at the conference. The play was performed by McMurry students Graeme Regan, Lacey Reece, Karl Taylor, and Isaac Chantos. Hughes is the 14th winning McMurry playwright in the TETA Playfest competition since 1999.
