McMurry University’s School of Education will host The Texas State Bar's Law Related Education (LRE) seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 18 in the Iris Graham Education Building. This free seminar will focus on program development for elementary, middle and high school courses designed to improve the administration of justice and promote civic education and participation.

The seminar titled “Heads Up! Making Citizenship, History, and Government Come Alive in Your Classroom” is designed to help get students engaged in meaningful, thought provoking lessons correlated to the social studies for Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

During the course of the day, university students, alternative certification candidates, and classroom teachers who want to or are currently teaching elementary, middle, and high school students will work with teacher consultants to learn how to implement these lessons into curriculum. Additionally, the lead LRE Constitutional scholar, Jerry Perry, will provide content support on the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.

Registration is free and includes lunch and a flash drive of seminar materials. Space is limited so early registration is encouraged.
