McMurry Professors, Alumni Gain Recognition

McMurry University Philosophy Professor Dr. Jeffery Kinlaw has been awarded the Messkirch Fellowship by the International Heidegger Working Group. This small fellowship provides, for a period of up to a month, an office with a small Heidegger library, ILL service for material unavailable in the States, and possible access to otherwise restricted Heidegger archival material.

The fellowship also provides a furnished apartment in Heidegger’s birthplace of Messkirch, Germany, for the duration of the visit. The selection committee has approved his stay in Messkirch for the summer of 2016.

Dr. Kinlaw also published a review of Breazeale and Rockmore (eds) of Fichte’s Vocation of Man: New Interpretive and Critical Essays. The review appeared in the Review of Metaphysics.

Dr. Tom Benoit has a paper describing an innovative way to study microbial ecology published online by The Journal of Microbiology and Biology Education.

McMurry University biology graduate Dr. Andrew Hockert '00 has been named the Chair of the Department of Biology at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Hockert received his BS in Biology from McMurry in 2000 and his doctorate in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics from Texas Tech University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in 2007.

McMurry University biomedical science graduate Toyosi Adewunmi '13 has been accepted into the South Texas Doctoral Bridge Program. As described by the UT Health Sciences Center-San Antonio Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the "South Texas Doctoral Bridge Program, funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH), promotes the participation of individuals from underrepresented groups in the pursuit of advanced degrees in biomedical research by providing financial and academic support, and professional development activities."

The program is a partnership between the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) and Texas State University in San Marcos." At McMurry, Adewunmi worked with Dr. Hyunshun Shin in Honors research. Since graduation with her BS in Biomedical Science, She has been working in a research lab in Houston.
