McMurry University to hold Spring 2015 Commencement on May 9

McMurry Alumni Board President Steven Bristow ’96 will be the guest speaker for the McMurry University Commencement on May 9 in Hunt P.E. Center. McMurry will confer degrees on 154 seniors at the event.

Bristow recently accepted the position of public affairs counsel for FleishmanHillard, a global communications firm, having spent the last 14 years in health care advocacy at major health systems in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. In his new role, he advises clients across a variety of industries on government affairs, advocacy and regulatory matters. He previously worked on Capitol Hill for two Members of Congress where his portfolio of issues included agriculture, appropriations, education, health and transportation.

Bristow holds a B.B.A. degree in marketing and public relations from McMurry University and a Master of Public Policy and Administration degree from Baylor University. He is a member of the McMurry University Board of Trustees, a member of the North Texas Commission and has served on several national trade associations’ advocacy boards. He is married to the former Shana Norman ’92 and father of Carter and Peyton.     

Rev. Felicia Hopkins, senior pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church, will be the featured preacher at McMurry’s Baccalaureate service at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Hopkins has lived in Texas for almost 19 years. She received her BSW from Valparaiso University and her MDiv from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Before coming to St. Paul UMC as senior pastor, she served several communities including Jackson Chapel UMC, Parker Lane UMC, Wesley Foundation United Campus Ministry at University of Texas at El Paso, St. Mark’s UMC in El Paso, and the United States Army Chaplain Corps. She is the proud parent of two sons, Samuel and Adam Hopkins. Samuel is a sophomore Computer Animation major at UT Dallas and Adam is a junior at Abilene High School.
