In light of the significance of writing in our national life, the McMurry University English Department will celebrate the seventh annual National Day on Writing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, at the Garrison Campus Center. This year’s theme is #WhyIWrite and everyone is encouraged to describe the reasons they write.

Last year, students, faculty, and staff collectively wrote over 300 descriptions of the McMurry community. This year, participants will write six-word-stories on 5x8 cards, post pictures of them to social media, and post the cards on the outside of the Campus Center.

The National Council of Teachers of English established National Day on Writing to draw attention to the remarkable variety of writing we engage in, and to help writers from all walks of life recognize how important writing is to their lives.
