McMurry Music Department to Host Saxophonist Sean Murphy

The McMurry University Department of Music will host saxophonist Sean Murphy in recital, Thursday, March 10, at 7:30 pm in Ryan Recital Hall.  Murphy’s program will consist of a variety of works for solo saxophone, to include “Tre Pezzi” for solo soprano saxophone by Giacinto Scelsi and “Awakenings”, a new work by Kit Turnbull for solo alto saxophone and digital sound.  This performance is free and open to the public.

Sean Murphy is a free-lance saxophonist and Selmer performing artist.  He is saxophonist with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida, and maintains a private studio of more than one hundred saxophonists in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.  Murphy holds degrees from the University of North Texas and Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.  His articles on saxophone pedagogy and performance have been published in more than ten music magazines and journals around the world.
