The Energy Institute at Texas Christian University (TCU) is conducting a seminar titled “Wealth Management & Estate Planning” for mineral and royalty owners in Abilene and West Central Texas. The program is being held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, in room 302 of the Old Main Building on the McMurry campus.

This program is designed for mineral and royalty owners wishing to preserve their wealth for their children, heirs, and beneficiaries. The program provides a substantial overview of estate planning so mineral and royalty owners can acquire a basic understanding of the different tools used to protect their assets under federal and state law.  Taxation of mineral assets and state property law is explored to ensure that participants are able to protect their assets from unnecessary taxation, claims from creditors, and litigation. The program is also open to licensed professionals who advise royalty owners, including attorneys, CPA’s, estate planners, consultants, and minerals managers.

The instructor is Glen Webb, an experienced attorney and mineral owner who lives in the Abilene area. He received a BA from Texas A&M University, an MBA from Texas Tech University, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence and Master of Laws (Taxation) from Southern Methodist University. Hiss practice is weighted toward the interests of mineral and royalty owners in West Texas and around the State of Texas. In addition to oil and gas minerals management, Webb is an expert in estate planning and tax mitigation.

Prior to forming his own law firm and abstract company in 2009, Webb was an attorney and shareholder in two large law firms in Dallas and Abilene. He acquired extensive hands-on experience in all aspects of oil and gas operations and minerals management, including lease negotiations, working interests, joint operating agreements, title curative, estate and tax planning, real estate, and wealth management. He has a special passion for mineral and royalty owners who want to acquire the knowledge and experience to level the playing field when they interact with oil and gas companies.

Webb serves as an instructor in oil and gas operations at McMurry University in Abilene. He was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to be a member of the Texas Farm and Ranch Council in 2006 and previously served as the President of the Texas Wildlife Association. He is an Eagle Scout and was named as a Top Young Lawyer in Texas by Texas Monthly in 2006. Webb has published several legal articles, including “Saving the Family Farm and Ranch,” which was published in Texas Wildlife. Also, he wrote the Texas Wildlife Association’s amicus brief to the Texas Supreme Court in the seminal water law case, Guitar Holding Co., LP v. Hudspeth County Underground Water District.

When he is not practicing law, Webb operates his family’s ranch properties in Throckmorton, Texas, which conducts commercial hunting and cow/calf operations.
