Below are news items of interest from McMurry University faculty and students.

Charlie Hukill, professor of theatre at McMurry University, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Stephen F. Austin (SFA) State University School of Theatre Distinguished Alumni Award.  Hukill graduated from SFA in 1977 with a BFA in Theatre. During the afternoon of May 6, he will be in Nacogdoches to conduct a workshop for theatre students and that evening will be the honored guest at the Awards Convocation.

McMurry University Director of Bands David Robinson recently presented the clinic “Small Band Programs:  Strategies for Success” at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio.  The clinic was presented February 10, 2017, to an estimated audience of 400 Texas band directors. The TMEA Convention is the largest state convention of any kind in the United States, drawing an average total of 30,000 to San Antonio over a four-day span.

The Nu Delta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi hosted a 2017 Southwest Division Area Workshop at McMurry University on Saturday, February 25.  The workshop was attended by representatives of nearly ten chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, national band service fraternity and sorority. The opening speaker for the conference was David Robinson, director of bands at McMurry and co-sponsor of the Nu Delta chapter, who presented “On Cultivating a Productive Relationship with Your Band Director.”
