McMurry University Director of Online Degrees Matt Dodd attended the 2017 Texas Council on Family Relations annual conference March 23-24 in Austin, TX. He serves as a board member and publications vice-president elect for the organization, which is one of the largest affiliates of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) that provides the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) program that focuses on healthy family functioning within a family systems perspective and provides a primarily preventive approach. In support of this effort, TxCFR hosted the “2017 Capitol Connection” event on Thursday, March 23, where members visited Texas legislators at the Texas Capitol in Austin to make them aware of, and promote the value of family life education and the CFLE (Certified Family Life Educator) as they create legislation that impacts Texas families.

McMurry Sociology Professor Dr. Jerry Hollingsworth competed in a 50k race in Monument Valley on the Arizona/Utah border on the Navajo Reservation on Saturday and Sunday, March 25-26. He also attended several Navajo ceremonies, rituals, along with being able to observe a 3-hour sweat lodge ceremony. His latest book, "Native America in the 21st Century," is currently being released by Cambridge Scholars Publishing.
