RepresentativesMcMurry University is proud to host the Abilene Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee as they welcome U.S. Representatives Mac Thornberry and Jodey Arrington to a luncheon at noon Thursday, August 3, in the Garrison United Methodist Campus Center Mabee Room.

Rep. Thornberry, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is in Abilene with 19th Congressional District Rep. Arrington for a change-of-command ceremony at Dyess Air Force Base.

“McMurry is honored to be hosting Congressmen Arrington and Thornberry and the Military Affairs Committee,” said McMurry University President Dr. Sandra Harper. “McMurry continues to have an excellent relationship with Dyess Air Force Base that goes back to the founding of the McMurry-Dyess program in 1960.”

McMurry was the first university to establish an educational program at Dyess and continues to offer a variety of educational options and special tuition rates that allow Dyess airmen to pursue their college degree while stationed in Abilene. Each year, McMurry also hosts Military Appreciation Day when active duty military and veterans and their families are invited to attend a War Hawks football game free of charge.

This is the first visit to Abilene and Dyess for Rep. Thornberry since he began his committee chairmanship in January 2015. He was in Abilene last for the college graduation of twin nieces, addressing McMurry graduates at the May 2014 commencement.
