New McMurry Students Prepare for College Life During War Hawk Welcome Week Orientation Aug. 23-27

McMurry University opens the fall semester this week as the freshman class of 2021 arrives Wednesday, August 23, to participate in War Hawk Welcome Week orientation.

The four-day action-packed program starts on Wednesday, when students move into their residence hall rooms from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Student orientation leaders and War Hawks football and baseball players will be available to help move in students. The day concludes with an Ala Cumba ceremony at 4:15 p.m. in Radford Auditorium.

Thursday will begin with the Kick-Off rally with orientation leaders at 9 a.m. and a trip to Camp Butman to participate in a wilderness low ropes course from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Orientation leaders are selected upper classman have gone through extensive training and planning to make the week fun as well as help the new students enter college life.

Other special events include Slime Olympics at Wah Wahtaysee Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and community service projects from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, and a worship service at 11 a.m. and cookout at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

War Hawk Welcome Week is designed to provide students with a life-long connection to McMurry through new friends, fun programs, team building and community services programs.
