Several McMurry University alumni have received special honors or awards.

  • Jonathan Urbanczyk, D.O., a 2011 McMurry alumnus, has been named Intern of the Year by the Internal Medicine Residents at Scott & What Medical Center at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in Temple, Texas.
  • Evelyn Gonzalez, a 2016 McMurry alumna, has received a generous assistantship from the University of North Texas, where she will pursue her Master’s degree in journalism beginning this fall. Gonzalez is an English and History double major and a graduate of the McMurry Honors program.
  • Ricky Garcia, a 2015 McMurry alumnus, has completed his Master’s degree in mechanical engineering in Texas A&M University in May and now is a science and engineering associate on the team for the Linac Coherent Light Source at Stanford University. This is a joint appointment between U.S. Department of Energy and Stanford.

The unprecedented brightness of Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) X-rays enables completely new areas of science, opening frontiers in imaging single nanoscale particles and in understanding chemistry on the natural timescales of reactions. These scientific advancements could lead to new and more effective drugs to fight disease, components for next-generation computers, new aircraft materials that are more damage-resistant, and highly customized chemical reactions that produces clean and renewable sources of energy.

  • Dr. Ralph Turner OB/GYN, a 1974 McMurry alumnus, has co-authored an article in the Journal of the North American Menopause Society providing a provocative new theory on hormones, menopause and the wisdom of hormone-replacement theory.
