McMurry University has signed a partnership agreement with Harlaxton College in England to become an “anchor” site for McMurry’s study abroad opportunities.

Harlaxton College is the British Campus of the University of Evansville. It serves as a major study abroad site for the University of Evansville (Indiana, USA) and for students from other American colleges and universities. It has offered a unique study abroad experience to students of partner institutions for 35 years. The intense semester-long experience emphasizes the study of British and European cultures. Along with a rigorous academic component, the program includes formal and informal travel opportunities throughout the UK and Europe.

“Studying abroad is an important college experience. Prospective employers value the skills that come along with a study abroad experience—initiative, adaptability, leadership, flexibility and problem solving,” said McMurry University President Dr. Sandra S. Harper. “Developing additional study abroad opportunities is a major goal in McMurry’s strategic plan as the University approaches its centennial celebration in 2023. Our partnership with Harlaxton helps us achieve that goal.”

McMurry Student Government President Hope Rouse will be the first McMurry student to study there. She will go during the May/June 2018 summer term.

The Harlaxton program has been named the best study abroad program by Best College Reviews, which provides alternative college rankings to U.S. News & World Report. Harlaxton College allows students to study in a 19th century manor house on 117 acres of gardens, parks and woodlands near Grantham, England, and just two hours from London by train.
