McMurry University will be hosting the Ft. Worth regional Destination Imagination (DI) competition on Saturday, February 24, and is expecting nearly four thousand students, parents, family and school district personnel on campus for the event. This is the first time that the competition has been held outside of the Ft. Worth area.

“This is a program that gives the best and brightest of this young generation a place to shine. They get to learn new skills and abilities that they may not have known they had. They learn life skills that will serve them forever,” said Trisha Eichler, tournament director of the greater Ft. Worth area.

The Destination Imagination program is dedicated to teaching students the skills needed to succeed in school, their careers and beyond. It provides project-based competitions that blend STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education with the arts and social entrepreneurship.

The academic competition for 3rd grade through university age students combines the sciences, arts and social sciences with creativity, problem solving and teamwork.  Student teams are presented with challenges they have to master, and they have worked together for months on their projects.

Students use the creative process to turn their ideas into reality and learn invaluable skills through the process, including:

  • Creative & Critical Thinking
  • Team Building
  • Problem Solving
  • Risk Taking
  • Project Management
  • Perseverance
  • Self-Confidence

The competition will close with an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Those interested in volunteering for the event can register at On the page, volunteers can opt to work all day, half day, or just a few hours.
