McMurry's Servant Leadership program will host Wylie ISD Gifted and Talented 5th and 6th graders on Wednesday, February 21, for a Leadership Summit. This is the first year McMurry will partner with Wylie ISD for the Leadership Summit; however, McMurry has worked with AISD in the fall for the Leadership Summit for 5th graders since 2002.

Dr. Jasmine Majkowski and Mrs. Erin Wilson, co-instructors of the McMurry Servant Leadership (SL) class, provided an interview process for McMurry students enrolled in or previously enrolled in the SL class on-campus. Ten students were chosen to serve as preceptors for the Wylie ISD Leadership Summit.  Much like the SL class led by Majkowski and Wilson, preceptors will engage the 5th and 6th grade students in meaningful learning activities with discussion questions focusing on developing leadership skills.  While on campus, students will also get to eat in the cafeteria and learn more about what it means to be a McMurry student. Wylie ISD Gifted and Talented Coordinator Kim Cheek leads students from Wylie.

"We hope that this experience provides these exceptional Wylie students with a fundamental understanding of the concept of servant leadership, a core value at McMurry,” said Dr. Majkowski. “Students will take away skills in persuasion, communication, foresight, awareness, and building community, all key values of servant leadership. Additionally, it is a great opportunity for some of our students to impact positively the next generation of War Hawks."
