Among her leadership positions are orientation leader, McMurry Student Foundation, cross country team captain, and alumni chair and homecoming chair for Gamma Sigma social club. She has been active in her church as a volunteer in the children’s ministry and vacation bible school. She has been recognized as an American Southwest Conference Distinguished Scholar Team Member and ASC All-Academic Honor Roll. After graduation, Fonville plans to teach elementary school and eventually become a children’s minister.

Fujiwara is a senior honors student from Hawley, Texas, majoring in Studio Art. She is active in the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) and has served as the secretary. She also is active in Pi Delta Phi Social Club and has served as editor for The Galleon student literary publication. Fujiwara has been on the Dean’s List every semester and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and Kappa Pi Art Honor Society. After graduation, she plans to teach English, attend graduate school and become an art professor.

The scholarship was established in 2014 in honor of the inauguration of Dr. Sandra S. Harper as McMurry University’s 12th president. There were 31 applicants this year for the two scholarships. Previously, five $5,000 scholarships have been awarded during the first four years to female students at McMurry who excelled in the classroom and who distinguished themselves through service on campus and in the Abilene community.
