McMurry University Theatre to Present Original Student One-Act Plays

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry Department of Theatre will be staging three plays written by McMurry students enrolled in the spring 2017 playwriting class taught by Theatre Professor Charlie Hukill.

Brace Ourselves, was written by senior Graeme Regan and is being directed by Hukill. The play is a story about a family struggling to make ends meet and what happens when an envelope full of money from a cashed paycheck is misplaced.

Senior Carolyn Ainsworth is directing Tops of the Trees, written by senior Laurel Alldredge. It’s the story of a young dancer with aspirations for success encountering an older, more experienced woman who has seen her dreams shattered.

The third play was written by senior Katrina Pearson and is under the direction of Associate Professor David Ainsworth. Imagination Stimulation is the story of an airman on temporary duty and what happens when his girlfriend and a fellow airman, his best friend, are left behind.

The plays will perform April 12-14 at the Ryan Little Theatre in the Ryan Fine Arts Center. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. Ticket information is available at academics.mcm.edu/theatre/tickets.
