Abilene artist Larry Millar will present “Delicate Balance” at McMurry University’s Amy Graves Ryan Gallery from January 16 to February 14, 2014.

Millar’s exhibition deals with two fields of interest, art and science. These are not conflicting; to Larry they are the same in many ways, and both deal with the understanding of the nature of reality.

The use of fossil wood tissue combined with existing wood is an attempt to cancel both deep time and the present.

Millar is not painting in the classic sense. He thinks of it as applying the past to the present. He appreciates process. The process he employs may be viewed as parallel to nature’s own and likened to fossilization or erosion. He is using the cues from natural mark making.

There will be an “Installation/Performance” the night of the opening on Thursday, January 16th at 6:30 p.m.

Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
