ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the National English Honor Society, would like to invite the campus and community to its spring service project, a reading marathon of The Hunger Games on March 23-24 at McMurry University.

As an organization, Sigma Tau is committed to promoting literacy on campus and in the community, as well as helping to enrich the community as a whole. This reading marathon will involve a public reading of Suzanne Collins’s novel The Hunger Games in order to promote literacy for the Abilene area and to raise money and collect food for the United Methodist Food Pantry. Participants will sign up for ten-minute reading slots and obtain sponsorships of money and/or non-perishable food for every slot they fill; all proceeds benefit the area’s United Methodist Food Pantry. In addition to the reading of the book, the event will include Hunger Games themed music, games and refreshments, and a viewing of the movie trailer.

The marathon will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 23, and end at noon on Saturday, March 24. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the group at
