ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University Art Department is pleased to announce the 2013 Perry Bentley winners. Yoleny Palacios a senior at Cooper High School is the first place winner and Katy Quinney also a senior at Cooper high school is the runner up. Palacios will receive the $10,000 Perry Bentley Art Scholarship through the Community Foundation of Abilene, and Quinney, as the first runner up, will receive a $9,500 McMurry Art Scholarship.

Both artists received 4’s (the highest number) at Visual Arts Scholastic Event now on exhibit at McMurry University’s Ryan Fine Arts Gallery. Katy Quinney’s entry along with 29 others is going to state level to compete for medals there.

Yoleny Palacios plans to major in art and minor in business, she is the first in her family to attend college. Katy Quinney plans to major in photography or art education.

The Perry Bentley Art Scholarship, named in memory of McMurry University art student Perry Bentley, is administered by the Community Foundation of Abilene and is awarded annually through an art portfolio competition judged by McMurry art faculty.
