ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University’s 2013 Knox-Bennett Guest Writer will be the poet and Vietnam War veteran, Edward Micus.

Mr. Micus will be on the McMurry campus on April 4 and will appear at two events. At 2:30 in the Jay-Rollins Library he will discuss poetry and the craft of writing, and then at 7:30 in the Ryan Recital Hall he will give a thirty-minute reading of his poems. After the reading, there will be a reception in the Ryan Foyer with lemonade and cupcakes and cookies. Both of these events are free and open to the public.

Mr. Mikus is a gifted and accomplished poet. His poems have appeared in prestigious publications such as The Harvard Review and Poetry, as well as in many other journals and magazines. His first full-length collection of poems, The Infirmary, was chosen in 2008 as the Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize winner and was published by The Kent State University Press. The poet Stephen Dunn has said that Mr. Micus’s poems about his experience in Vietnam “will take their places among the very best war poems.”

Copies of Mr. Micus’s book, The Infirmary, are now available in the McMurry bookstore.

Mr. Micus is from Mankato, Minnesota. He is the former Assistant Director of the Center for Creative Success at Mankato State University.
