ABILENE, Texas – McMurry’s second show of the summer will be the musical Hairspray, which will be performed July 28-31 and August 4-7. Directed by Shane Hill with choreography by Teri Wilkerson, the show features music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan. The plot revolves around a teenager in 1960s Baltimore who dreams of dancing on a local TV dance program. When she lands a role, she launches a campaign to integrate the performers. Featuring 1960s-style dance music and rhythm and blues, the show is an upbeat social commentary on parts of American society in the 1960s.

For both shows, dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. with curtain at 8:00 p.m. In addition to the evening performances, there will be two Sunday matinee performances of Hairspray at 2:00 p.m. Show-only seating is available for all productions. For more information about menus, seating and reservations call (325) 793-3889 or stop by the McMurry Theatre Box Office in the Amy Graves Ryan Fine Arts Building between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and on all performance days.
