New McMurry Students Prepare for College Life

During Welcome Week Freshman Orientation Aug. 24-28

ABILENE, Texas – Activities on the McMurry campus heat up this week as McMurry University’s new freshman class arrives Wednesday, August 24, to start Welcome Week orientation.

The five-day action-packed program starts on Wednesday, when students move into their residence hall rooms from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Student orientation leaders and McMurry faculty/staff will be available to help move in students. From 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. freshmen will participate in the Gutter-Splits Involvement Fair. Campus clubs and organizations will be on hand and freshmen will get to eat ice cream from two 30-foot rain gutters.

Thursday will begin with the Kick-Off Pow Wows with orientation leaders. Student leaders are selected upper classman have gone through extensive training and planning to make the week fun as well as help the new students enter college life. The week includes several orientation sessions, a trip to Camp Butman to participate in a Wilderness Ropes Course on Thursday, Community Service projects on Friday, the Slime Olympics and a trip to Mr. Gatti’s on Saturday, and a worship service and cookout on Sunday.

Welcome Week is designed to provide students with a life-long connection to McMurry through new friends, fun programs, team building and community services programs.
