ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University will rededicate the Sacred Wind Statue, located at the center of the campus and welcome students and faculty back at the school’s opening Chapel Service beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, in the campus quad. A campus wide picnic will follow the rededication ceremony at noon.

Sacred Wind was created by Abilene artist and McMurry graduate Terry Gilbreth and features an Indian warrior with a Harris Hawk on his shoulder. The rededication recognizes the school’s old and new mascots – The Indian and the War Hawk – and their interconnectedness.

The opening Chapel Service will feature McMurry Chaplain Rev. Tim Kennedy and Assistant Chaplain Tim Palmer and the music will be provided by the popular Christian band Burgundy Road, which formed at McMurry in 2000.
