David Shoup ’91, CEO of Constructors Inc., to speak at McMurry University Fall Convocation Tuesday, Sept. 4


ABILENE, Texas – David M. Shoup ’91, the featured speaker for the 2012 Fall Convocation, is the Major Stockholder and C.E.O. of Constructors, Inc. and its Subsidiaries and Affiliates in Carlsbad, New Mexico and Southeastern New Mexico. His companies are heavily involved in the construction, trucking, material supply, and oilfield industries in Southeastern New Mexico and West Texas areas.

Mr. Shoup is a 1991 graduate of McMurry’s Business School and went to public school in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Mr. Shoup proudly follows in his father, George Shoup, Jr., footsteps as a member of McMurry University Board of Trustees in 2012.

Following Mr. Shoup’s graduation from McMurry in 1991, he joined the family business founded by his grandfather George Shoup, Sr. in 1958. In 1997, Mr. Shoup assumed control of the businesses and from then to the present he has overseen and managed growth of his company from a small local construction and material supply company to a regional presence with revenues exceeding $80 million a year. Throughout this period of significant growth over the past 15 years, Mr. Shoup has made sure the main focus point has continued to be on what he considers his company’s greatest and most valuable asset, the employee. His company has over 400 employees and their personal growth and wellbeing is included as a major part of the company’s mission statement to be the employer of choice in Southeastern New Mexico.

Mr. Shoup also serves as a Bank Director for the Carlsbad National Bank, in Carlsbad New Mexico, A board member of the Carlsbad Department of Development, a Trustee of Epworth United Methodist Church, an active member of the Carlsbad Rotary Club, and many other civic organizations. His favorite involvement is his membership with the New Mexico Athletic Association, where he holds a coaching certificate, which enables him to coach 8th grade football and basketball for the Carlsbad Municipal Schools.

David and his wife Christy have three children.
