ABILENE, Texas –David Jackson “Jack” Wilburn II ’93, an attorney in Lewisville, Texas, has been chosen as the 2012 at-large recipient of the McMurry University Cross & Flame Award. He will be recognized at the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service on October 7 at First United Methodist Church in Prosper, Texas.

Established in 2000 by the McMurry Alumni Association, this award is given to strengthen the relationship between McMurry University and the United Methodist Church by recognizing individuals for service to their churches and to the University.

Wilburn earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree, magna cum laude, from McMurry and his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 2003.

Following graduation from McMurry, he began his teaching career as the Band director in Hamlin, Texas. While at the University of Houston Law Center, Jack was a member, and served as President of the Christian Legal Society. He also made time to give back to the community as a member of the 2001 Disaster Recovery Team for Tropical Storm Allison. During his law school years, the Wilburn’s were members of St. Luke UMC in Houston, participating in several church oriented programs.

Wilburn found his United Methodist roots by coming to McMurry as a student. This dedication to McMurry and the Methodist Church has continued to grow and be enriched, as he built his life, his profession, and family centered within his faith.

Jack, his wife Amy, and their two children Caroline & Carter, are now active members of the Prosper United Methodist Church in Prosper, Texas, where he has involved himself in many varied facets of leadership and service at Prosper UMC. He teaches third and fourth graders on Wednesdays and was a Co-Founder of Wild at Heart Men’s Ministry. He is a choir member and provides trombone for special music occasions, and he led a music program for Vacation Bible School. He also has coordinated teachers for Sunday school classes & curriculum, served on the Usher Team and Sunday Schoo

l Teaching rotation for pre-K thru 4th grade, and teaches “Kid Zone” for 11:00 am services.

Wilburn served on the McMurry Alumni Board of Directors, and was Chair of the Stewardship Sub-Committee. He also served as a one of the four Co-Chairs of the successful Capital Campaign for the revitalization of the Bynum Band Hall in 2008. Jack not only is generous with his time and talents to McMurry, but is also a consistent financial supporter of the University.
