McMurry Alumni receive grant for initiatives
Abilene Education Foundation Star Grants totaling $7,390.84 were awarded to nine alumni from the McMurry School of Education, helping to fund upcoming initiatives and projects in their classrooms. Tanjena Famble’s second graders will be able to write on the board without leaving their desks. Amanda Baldwin’s high school art students will be able to make fused glass jewelry as they learn about the science behind working with that material. Carey Kitts will have an after school music club for children who live in one of Abilene’s low socio-economic neighborhoods. These are only three projects being produced by the grant initiative winners, who also include McMurry alumni Sujan Kilton, Lori Jaggars, Stephanie Mouat, Susan Folds, Robin Harrison, and Mildred Pena.
McMurry History Professor Dr. Don Frazier to release new book.
Dr. Don Frazier will release a new book this week titled Thunder Across the Swamp: The Fight for the Lower Mississippi, February-May 1863. The book is available for pre-order on Amazon for $37.77.

McMurry Business Professor Dr. Patricia A. Lapoint wins international award
McMurry University Business Professor Dr. Patricia A. Lapoint and Dr. Carrol R. Haggard of Fort Hayes State University are winners of the Distinguished Research Award in the International Academy for Case Studies for a paper entitled “ZBN News: An Examination of Issues Related to the Corporate Ownership of Media.” The paper was presented at the October Allied Academies 2011 Fall International Conference in Las, Vegas, Nevada. The paper will be published in the conference Proceedings and has been accepted for the Journal of the International Academy for Case Studies (publication date yet to be determined).
