ABILENE, Texas – Results released November 15 by the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) demonstrate that McMurry University excels in the categories of Supportive Campus Environment, Student-Faculty Interaction, and Enriching Educational Experiences. The NSSE is the recognized benchmark for assessing the extent to which colleges and universities effectively engage students in their education.

McMurry scored higher than its peer institutions in these three categories based on benchmarks developed by NSSE to reflect best educational practices.

“The 2012 NSSE data tangibly confirm what we intuitively know, which is the critically important role that close faculty-student interactions play in the best educational experiences,” said Dr. Paul Fabrizio, vice president for academic affairs at McMurry. “The most recent results of the NSSE student assessment demonstrate the commitment of McMurry’s faculty and staff to providing students with a comprehensive, all-inclusive education in a collaborative, supportive environment.”

Specific areas that McMurry students gave high marks to in the NSSE survey findings included:

• 94 percent rated their experience as good or excellent and 86 percent of seniors would choose McMurry again for their college experience.

• 89 percent feel that McMurry provides substantial support for their academic success.

• 95 percent of seniors have discussed their career plans with faculty.

• 80 percent of students feel that their professors are available, helpful and sympathetic.

The 2012 NSSE report, which is sponsored by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, provides information to students and parents in the college search process and gives campuses insight into effective teaching and student learning.
