The spring 2013 Pre-Professional seminar class from the McMurry School of Natural and Computational Sciences recently attended a luncheon and series of “mini-lectures” by faculty members and research assistants in the Department of Immunotherapeutics and Biotechnology at the Texas Tech University School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Jon Weidanz, chair of the department at Texas Tech, welcomed the students and introduced several of his faculty members and research assistants. A discussion of current research followed, with many examples that echoed concepts the student have begun to encounter in their coursework. Students were invited to join TRIG (Translational Research Interest Group) and volunteer at a lab to prepare for a competitive application to the summer biotech research internship program.

Bradley Rowland, McMurry senior and assistant researcher, completed the session by talking about just what a student volunteer researcher experiences in the lab.

Dr. Maciej Markiewski gave the students a tour of the lab facilities.
