Bishop Dan Solomon
ABILENE, Texas –Bishop Dan Solomon will serve as the 2014 McMurry University Baccalaureate Preacher on Friday, Dec.13, at 5:30 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He will be preaching from Matthew 22: 34-40 and the title of his sermon is “A Sacred Journey”.

Bishop Solomon is the bishop-in-residence at McMurry and president of the Texas United Methodist College Association. He served as presiding bishop for the United Methodist Church Oklahoma Area (Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference and Oklahoma Conference) from 1988 to 1996 and Louisiana Area from 1996 to 2000.

At the national level, Bishop Solomon served as President, General Board of Global Ministries, 1996-2000, Chair, World Division, General Board of Global Ministries, 1992-1996, Member, Commission on Status and Role of Women, 1988-1992, and Chair of Trustees, General Board of Church and Society, 1984-1988.

Bishop Solomon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree summa cum laude from McMurry in 1958, his master of divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology and his doctor of ministry from United Theological Seminary.

Bishop Solomon has received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from McMurry University and Perkins School of Theology at SMU and honorary doctorates from McMurry, Oklahoma City University and Centenary College.
