Abilene, TX

About 900 juniors from the Abilene Independent School District will be spending an hour or so at McMurry University with one of America’s great presidents - Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, the American politician, author, naturalist, soldier, explorer, and historian who served as the 26th President of the United States.

Actually, they will be hearing from Joe Wiegand, acclaimed as the nation's premiere Theodore Roosevelt reprisor who tours the United States portraying the Rough Rider President. The one-man show will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, in Radford Auditorium.  He will be introduced by State Rep. Susan King.

Wiegand’s Teddy Roosevelt shares stories full of adventure, laughter and inspiration. He has performed nationwide, including a performance at the White House to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Roosevelt’s birth.

Wiegand’s show reprises Roosevelt's adventures as rancher, Rough Rider and father of six in the White House. He reminisces on the establishment of America's great national parks, forests, monuments and wildlife reserves and tells amazing stories of the frail young boy who built his body and dedicated himself to the vigorous life and the Square Deal.

Wiegand also will be performing at The Fourth Annual Comanche Moon Social. The night of entertainment is set for Saturday, October 4, at Perini Ranch in Buffalo Gap.

The event benefits the Buffalo Gap Historic Village. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 325-572-3974 or email
